There are scheduled to be more than 170 units in the Fourth of July parade that kicks off 9 a. m. Tuesday July 4, 2023 at  the Smithville Town Center.

According to members of the Fourth of July parade committee, it is the largest parade of its kind based on number of units.

The annual parade will follow its usual route east on Smithville Boulevard to Moss Mill Road and then west on Moss Mill to Historic Smithville.

The passing parade with a record number of units may take close to two hours to pass any given point.

Up to 10,000 people are expected to line the parade route, with many following the fire apparatus closing the parade to an Independence Day ceremony in Smithville’s Village Greene.

“We’ll be honoring the women who served, but keep in mind the police and all men and women who serve every day,” Maxwell said. He said he was hoping for good weather and a great parade.

“It makes me so excited to see kids 5 and 6 years old waving flags,” Maxwell said. “They don’t know yet how their ancestors fought to save this country. ”

He said he was happy with the parade’s growth over the years.

“It means the more people see it, the more they like it – and they come out,” Maxwell said.

There will be no registration the day of the parade; the lineup is set. Staging will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Smithville Town Center parking lot on Smithville Boulevard at Route 9.

The parade route will be blocked off to local traffic at 8:30 a.m.
